Carnelian

This gemstone varies in color from pink to deep orange. It has a strong influence on the sacral chakra. For this reason it is recommended to energetically balance lower back problems, rheumatism and arthritis. It also assists the kidneys to regulate their water energies. 

Traditionally, carnelian is regarded as a protective stone, and in Celtic Times it was part of the array of gemstones mounted on a warrior’s breastplate or jewelry to accompany him into the afterlife. [1] 
 
Merchants often used Carnelian to craft ‘seal rings’ for royalty and the upper classes, as it will separate easily from wax and clay.  The ancients often believed that Carnelian was good for combating a bad temper, such as anger that was thought to be the product of black magic. And Carnelian is known to offer protection from black magic. Many other ancient healers used Carnelian as a ailment for blood issues, as it was known as the “Blood of Isis”.
 
A Carnelian amulet is often thought to be a  magical amulet and was place in the home to guard it from lighting, storms and collapse, or carried as protection against enchantment against evil, and for attracting good luck.

Found in Brazil, Uraguay, India, USA, South Africa and Australia, Carnelian is one of the oldest gemstones and protective stones in history. It's name is derived from the Latin Corneolus meaning "Cherry" The Egyptians carried it about their person as a source of energy and for the constant renewal of vitality. 

Carnelian promotes activity, creativity, motivation, helpfulness and encourages community spirit.  Drinking carnelian water helps firm the skin by stimulating the circulation.  Carnlian water is made by leaving the stone in a glass of water overnight.  

Carnelian must be cleansed once a month under warm running water and recharged for quite a long period in the sun.  [2]

  • Hold a carnelian stone while praying or meditating.
  • Use a carnelian mala or carnelian prayer beads to facilitate spiritual healing.

Carnelian healing properties may improve digestion and facilitate nutrient absorption in the small intestine, in keeping with carnelian meaning. Carnelian gemstones are said to help with boils, congestion, hemorrhoids, phlebitis, skin problems and varicose veins. Carnelian is believed to help stop nosebleeds.

Additional carnelian healing properties are associated with the musculoskeletal system. Carnelian benefits are said to assist with healing of arthritis, back troubles, neuralgia and rheumatism, all benefits that can increase strength in keeping with carnelian meaning. Carnelian gemstones may help reduce depression in people of all ages, although they are believed to be more beneficial for the elderly. Carnelian may assist with detoxification from drugs and alcohol in addition to helping to break addictions to these substances.[3]
